This residential district south of the downtown area has experienced incredible growth since 2010. It was here, along Millionaire's Row, that the industrial and business leaders Marshall Field and George Pullman, among others, lived in mansions designed by famous architects. For a while, Prairie Avenue was the city's most chic address. However, by 1966 industrial growth led to its demise, with the demolition of most of its mansions. The neighbourhood was listed in 1979 in order to preserve those houses that remained standing.
