This museum occupies a building designed by Ralph Johnson (Perkins & Will) and donated by Dick and Peggy Notebaert. Beneath its 1 500m² roof garden, its aim is to reconnect citizens with nature through a variety of experiences and exhibits: the wetlands of the Midwest and their secrets, the origin of food, some 75 species of butterflies and caterpillars, a climbing garden etc. In winter it also hosts the Green City Market, a large farmers' market.
