Consisting of a three-block row of vendors' sheds, the Old City Market is housed in a Greek Revival-style market hall dating from 1840 and was designed by Edward Brickell White to resemble the Temple of Fortuna Virilis in Rome. Apart from gourmet snacks (sweet crackers, spicy rice, corn gruel, boiled peanuts), today's visitor will find tourist souvenirs, jewelry and local arts and crafts, particularly sweet grass baskets.
