On a rocky outcrop at 1,094m above sea level, St-Martin-du-Canigou Abbey occupies a natural, unspoiled setting (only accessible on foot - over 1hr return). The Benedictine monastery, consecrated in 1009, comprises a cloister and two churches: a 10C crypt and a simply decorated 11C edifice. For the best view, climb the steps (marked "itinéraire no. 9" - 30mins return on foot) up through the woods and turn right past the water source.
