Adjoining Église St Pierre, the 16C Château de Carennac consists of a main section flanked by corner turrets and a gallery built above the Gothic chapels of the church. The austere façade overlooks the River Dordogne and the Île de Calypso, or Île Barrade, thus named in homage to the masterpiece that French writer Fénelon wrote in one of the towers of the town.
