Called the "black church" in memory of the fire that swept through Brasov in 1689 and blackened its walls, this triple-nave basilica (1472) impresses both by its dimensions and height. Inside are lavish Oriental carpets from Turkey, donated by wealthy local merchants. A statue of Johannes Honterus to the right of the church, and a college on a small square named after him, honour the memory of this 16C humanist, who introduced Lutheranism to Transylvania.
