Cathédrale St-André is the most majestic of Bordeaux's churches. Its nave was built in the 11C-12C and modified in the 13C and 15C; the chancel, built in High Gothic style, and the current transept were rebuilt in the 14C and 15C. Later, when the nave roof looked likely to collapse, large buttresses and flying buttresses were added at irregular intervals. The church boasts a magnificent Royal Door (13C) decorated with polychrome statues and, inside, a fine Renaissance organ.
