The island of Lavezzi and a hundred or so islets and reefs form an archipelago, some 4km from the Pointe de Sperone, southeast of Bonifacio. The Lavezzi islands are now part of the Bouches de Bonifacio nature reserve, access to which is restricted. This tiny paradise of sandy creeks and crystal-clear water is depicted by an almost lunar appearance and some of its huge granite boulders are reminiscent of an imaginary bestiary. Its flora includes rare species, such as the ill-smelling "pig's ear".
