The North Dakota Heritage Center houses exhibits which explore life on the Great Northern Plains from their earliest history (State Fossil Collection) to the present day. The Main Gallery is home to a mastodon skeleton with 10 000-year old tusks, while the Innovation Gallery is dedicated to the Native American Mandan tribes. A statue of the famous Sacagawea, The Bird Woman (Leonard Crunelle, 1910), stands in front of the centre.
