Founded c 1120, this architectural gem is famed for its carved pillars. The Perpendicular-style main façade of St Mary's, decorated with slender shafts and fine mouldings, resembles that of King's College Chapel in Cambridge. The tower and Minstrels' Pillar in the nave were added in 1524. The extraordinary chancel ceiling, painted in 1445, depicts an inventory of the kings of England.
