The Museum of German History occupies the former Prussian Arsenal. It retraces key periods in the country's history, from the Great Invasions to the contemporary era through a variety of works: a portrait of Martin Luther by Lucas Cranach (1539); a 17C Ottoman tent; Biedermeier-style furniture; and The Strike (Der Streik, 1886) by Robert Koehler. The extension to the north, by I.M. Pei (1992), is used for temporary exhibitions.
