After the hall built by Langhans in 1817 was burned down, the Schauspielhaus theatre was rebuilt in 1821 by Schinkel, who took inspiration from the architecture of Ancient Greece. The building, destroyed during the Second World War, was rebuilt from 1980-84 in Classical style and renamed the Konzerthaus. Although the interior is not faithful to the original style, it is truly stunning. The monument to Schiller dating from 1869 is the work of the Berlin Reinhold Begas.
