Completed in 1940, the Roßfeld road, partly occupying the border with Austria, reaches the edge of the ridge, above the Austrian Salzach valley, and offers a fine panoramic view over Dachstein Glacier. From the other side, there is an outstanding view over the Hoher Göll, Kehlstein, Untersberg, the region of Berchtesgaden and Salzburg. After the Roßfeldhütte, the road winds into the hilly and wooded Oberau. Numerous belvederes punctuate this 17km circuit that sets off from Berchtesgaden.
