Magilligan Strand is a long beach, comprising a 10km stretch between Magilligan Point and Downhill (access by B 202, which runs alongside a military exercise ground and a prison). The point, facing the Inishowen Peninsula in the Republic of Ireland, is quite polluted and hardly inviting. There are nonetheless pleasant walks about the dunes, which make up a nature reserve. Nearby, the seaside site of Benone is a very popular tourist resort that draws the crowds in summer.
