The high basalt and limestone plateau (42km²/26mi² to the north of Barumini is very popular with nature lovers. Hare, boar and woodcock roam in this unspoiled protected landscape of cork oaks, sessile oaks, green oaks and gorse. You may also meet the king of the Giara, the small cavallino sardo horse, that is indigenous here.
