This huge and always busy square, a meeting place for Barcelona's inhabitants, stands at the junction of the old town and the Eixample district. Laid out in 1927 by Francesc de P. Nebot, it is lined by buildings of every style that nowadays house shops and large cafés. This hub of urban activity is also embellished with sculptures by Llimona and Gargallo, as well as a replica of Josep Clarà's "Deesa", a masterpiece of Noucentisme, although the non-stop traffic here makes it difficult to appreciate it to the full.
