Imagine this imposing façade brightly decorated in red, yellow and blue, as it would have been in Antiquity! Commissioned by Pericles, this temple dedicated to the glory of Athena and her city was built between 447 and 438 BC and has been admired ever since as a masterpiece of Doric architecture. Despite a fire in 267, the building remained almost intact until it was bombarded by the Venetians in September 1687. Part of the building's surviving decor can be seen in the Acropolis museum.
