Dedicated to Ares (god of war), the Areopagus, a rock overlooking the Ancient Agora of Athens, gave its name to the oldest Council of Athens, at once a court of appeal, a political council and a guardian of customs and laws. It is on this hill that St Paul is said to have converted Dionysos, the future Saint Denis Areopagite, the first bishop of Athens. Lovely views of the Acropolis.
