Ancient Argos was the economic and political capital of the Argolid. Excavations unearthed the vestiges of an opulent settlement that was renowned for its sculpture school. The museum is home to artefacts discovered during digs; the impressive theatre was built in the 4C BC and remodelled by the Romans, who converted the stage into a pool. Thermae, an odeon (1C-3C) and an agora are also visible on the site.
