The Apache Trail forms a 137mi loop from Apache Junction to Globe. This scenic route winds its way through the heart of the Sonora desert over mountains covered with wild flowers in spring, and passing vertiginous canyons and dams and reservoirs built on the Salt River. The road crosses over the Superstition Mountains, continues to Theodore Roosevelt Dam, then after passing the Tonto National Monument with its Salado-style village, ends at a tarmacked road.
