This street, one of the town's main shopping avenues, is buzzing with activity and lined with occasionally solemn façades. On the corner of Wapper and Meir, note the old Rococo-style Royal Palace (18C), inhabited by numerous sovereigns over the years, while to the west of Meir, the Art Deco Boerentoren (Peasants' Tower) can be seen. When the latter was opened in 1932, it was the tallest skyscraper in Europe.
