The green lung of the south of the island, Alta Rocca (meaning "high rock") boasts landscapes with forested slopes, plateaux abandoned to the moor and beautiful villages with heavy granite houses. The eastern and mountainous part of the ancient seigniory of La Rocca is a paradise for archaeology enthusiasts on account of the traces of prehistoric dwellings to be found there, as well as for hikers (numerous waymarked trails) and anyone who enjoys outdoor sports.
