With its vast open spaces that are home to herds of black bulls with distinctive curved horns, slender silhouettes of pink flamingoes and galloping white horses, the Camargue is a unique place. This natural habitat has been preserved thanks to the creation of the National Reserve in 1927 and the Regional Nature Park (100 000ha) in 1970. You can learn more at the Musée de la Camargue. Les Stes-Maries-de-la-Mer and its church-fortress is an ideal starting point for exploring the region and the Étang du Vaccarès lake.
